Tana Haik Alumni Scholarship – Second Round

Some 50 years ago, Tana Haik High School was established as the only high school for young students in Bahir Dar and its surrounding in Northwestern Ethiopia. Thousands have fetched knowledge and ascended to the heights of academics and businesses. Most of us are indebted for what the school, with its limited resources, did for us. For more than half a century, the school has been a fountain of knowledge for young people in Bahir Dar and adjacent towns. During its establishment, it also served as dormitory for Bahirdar Polytechnic College.

Aspiring High Quality Education- education is the foundation for the development of a nation. Countries with developed education system are leading the world’s science, technology, economic and social development. Quality education is at the heart of scientific innovations, advancement of technology, economic empowerment and creating a generation that stands out the dynamics of the world.

In view of this, The Tana Haik Alumni Network , strives to realize the highest possible quality education in the school. Our interventions include encouragement of students through scholarship, ensuring availability of critical resources such as books, improving access to technology, creating better learning environment for girls and students with disability. The targets for scholarship are students with academic excellence, those from lower socioeconomic background, and girls in need of support. The alumni also prioritized a long-standing issue of shortage of books in the school library. The group is campaigning for members to donate books to the library to enable all students to have better access for books.

About Tana Haik Alumni Group

In the year 2012, a few numbers of former-students who lived in Ethiopia and abroad volunteered to work together for the cause of giving back to their school, Tana Haik. They established the alumni group with a vision: “Together we can make a difference to bring a bright future for students in our community!”. It all started by supporting the school through providing furniture and Internet service to the Library, and organizing donation of books. In just a few years, alumni from all over the world shared the vision and expanded the dimension of the support to the school. Currently, there are members from all batches participating in annual fundraisers and campaigns to support current students.

This alumni group has three main objectives:

1.     To encourage students through providing scholarship: the scholarship targets students with academic excellence, those from lower socioeconomic background and girls.

Achievements in 2017
·       $9450 raised for scholarship
·       24 outstanding students benefited from the scholarship ( monthly 500 ETB each month)
·       Two visually impaired scholarship winners were provided recording devices
·       Work in progress to support one student in need of wheelchair,

2.     To assist young girls from lower socioeconomic background with sanitary napkins: this objective aspires to create better learning environment for girls from poor families through providing monthly sanitary napkins in school.

Achievements in 2017
·       $1000 raised for sanitary napkins for girls
·       100 girls from lower socioeconomic background benefited from this intervention
·       Sanitary napkins were made available for all other girls and faculty for emergency needs

3.    To support the school in providing books and educational resources for higher standard library and learning centers

The school recently built a big library, however this library is severely challenged by the very limited number and variety of books it provides for students. The long-standing shortage of important books is currently a critical problem which is given high priority by the alumni.

Achievements since 2012
·       The alumni has supported the library and computer centers with books and other resources (furniture,internet service etc) since 2012
·       Several reference books were provided to the library by volunteering members since 2012
·       Currently we are organizing campaigns for all members to participate in book drives which will be facilitated in several locations.

ከአምስት አስርት አመታት በፊት የጣና ሐይቅ ሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤት ለባህርዳርና ዙሪያዋ ለሚገኙ ሁለተኛ ደረጀ ተማሪዎች ያገለግል ዘንድ በባህር ዳር ከተማ ተመሠረተ፡፡በዚሁ ትምህርት ቤት ከፍተኛ ቁጥር ያላቸው ተማሪዎች እውቀትን ገብይተውበታል: ለከፍተኛ ትምህርት መሠረት ጥለውበታል: እንዲሁም የተለያዩ አዳዲስ የሃሣብ ውጥኖችን ጀምረውበታል ፡፡ብዙዎቻችን ትምህርት ቤቱ ባለችው ትንሽ አቅም ብዙ እንደተጠቀምን ህያዉ ምስክሮች ነን፡፡ ከግማሽ ምእተ አመት በፊት ጣና ሃይቅ ሲመሰረት ለባህርዳር እና ለአካባቢዋ ተማሪዎች የእውቀት ማግኛ ምንጭ ከመሆኑም በተጨማሪ ለፖሊቴክኒክ ኮሌጅ ተማሪዎች ማደሪያነት አገልግሏል፡፡

ትምህርት የእድገት ሁሉ መሠረት ነው:: ስለሆነም በሳይንስ እና ቴክኖሎጅ  እውቀትን ለማግኘትና ለማሣደግ ለምናደረግው ጥረት በር ይከፍትልናል፡፡በአሁኑ ሰአት አለማችን እጅግ ፈጣን በሆነ እድገት ላይ የምትገኝ በመሆንዋ ለሁሉም መስክ በተለይም በትምህርት ዘርፍ ተወዳዳሪ ሆኖ ለመቅረብ ከፍተኛ ውድድር ማድረግ ግድ ይለናል፡፡ስለሆነም በአገር አቀፍ ብሎም በአለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ከፍተኛ ተወዳዳሪ ተማሪዎችን ማየት የምንፈልግ ከሆነ ለተማሪዎች የተለየ እና የተሻለ ድጋፍና ማበረታቻ ያስፈልጋቸዋል፡፡ ይህንንም ሀሣብ በመደገፍ የቀድሞ የጣና ሀይቅ ተማሪዎች ህብረት ጠንክሮ በመስራት ላይ ይገኛል፡፡በየአመቱ ለተወሰኑ ተማሪዎች የትምህርት መገልገያ እቃዎችን ለመግዛት የሚያግዝ እንዲሁም በጥቂቱ ኑሮአቸውን በሚደግፍ መልኩ ከባለፈው አመት  ጀምሮ የስኮላርሽፕ ፕሮግራም ተግባራዊ መደረግ ጀምሯል፡፡በዚህ ስኮላርሽፕ ድጋፍ የሚያገኙት 24 ተማሪዎች ሲሆኑ 12 ወንዶች እና 12 ሴቶች ናቸው:: ከሚመረጡበት መስፈርት ከፍተኛውን ድርሻ የሚይዘው ዝቅተኛ የኑሮ ሁኔታ ያላቸውን እና በትምህርታቸው ጥሩ ውጤት የሚያመጡትን ተማሪዎች በማወዳደር ነው፡፡በጠቅላላው የዚህ የጣና ሀይቅ ስኮላርሽኘ አላማ ተማሪዎችን በትምህርታቸው የተሻለ ተፎካካሪ እንዲሆኑ ማገዝና ሴቶችን ደግሞ በትምህርታቸው እንዲጐለብቱና ለተሻለ ውድድር ማብቃት ነው፡፡

ስለ ጣና ሃይቅ የቀድሞ ተማሪዎች ህብረት አጀማማር

የጣና ሀይቅ የተማሪዎች ህብረት  በኢትዩጵያና በውጭ ሀገር በሚኖሩ በጎ ፈቃደኛ የቀድሞ ተማሪዎች የተጀመረ ነው፡፡ ይዞም የተነሳው መርህ “በጋራ ስንሆን ለውጥ እናመጣለን፣ የተማሪዎችን የተሻለ የወደፊት መንገድም እንቀርፃለን የሚል ነው፡፡” ከጥቂት አመታት በፊት የቀድሞ ተማሪዎች በመሰባሰብ ትምህርት ቤቱ የኢንተርኔት ቤተ መጽሀፍት ተጠቃሚ እንዲሆን አድርገዋል፡፡ እንዲሁም መጽሃፍትን በመግዛት በስጦታ አበርክተዋል፡፡ በአሁኑ ሰአት ይህ የጣና ሀይቅ ህብረት ሰፍቶ በተለያዩ የትምህርት አመታት የጨረሱ፣በተለያዩ የአለማችን ክፍሎች የሚኖሩ የቀድሞ ተማሪዎችን አቅፎ በጋራ በመስራት ላይ ይገኛል፡፡

ይህ ህብረት 3 አብይት አለማዎች አሉት፡- 

1. ለተማሪዎች የገንዘብ እገዛ ማድረግ:: በአለፈው አመት 9450 ዶላር የተሰበሰበ ሲሆን 24 ተማራዎችን መርዳት ችለናል፡፡ ስኮላርሽኘ ያሸነፋት 12 ሴትና 12 ወንድ ነበሩ:: የህን ድጋፍ ያገኙ ተማሪዎች የተመረጡበት መስፈርት መሠረት ያደረገው በተማሪዎቹ የኑሮ ሁኔታና የትምህርት ውጤትን ግምት ውስጥ በማስገባት ነው፡፡ ከዚህም በተጨማሪ የተለየ እርዳታ የሚያስፈልጋቸውን ተማሪዎች ለመርዳት በቅተናል፡፡ ከነዚህም መካከል ሁለት ማየት የተሳናቸውን የስኮላርሽፕ አሸናፊዎች የድምጽ መቅረጫ እንዲያገኙ ተደርጏል፡፡ አንድ መራመድ የማይችል አሸናፊ ተማሪ ደግሞ ዊልቸር የሚያገኝበትን መንገድ በዚህ አመት እያመቻችን እንገኛለን፡፡ በአሁኑ አመት ደግሞ ህብረቱ የሚሰበሰበውን መዋጮ ወደ 12,000 ዶላር ከፍ በማድረግ ተጨማሪ ተማሪዎችን ለመርዳት በሃሳብ ደረጃ ተይዞ ይገኛል፡፡

2. የገንዘብ አቅማቸው አናሣ /የገንዘብ እጥረት/ ለሆኑ ሴት ተማሪዎች የንጽህና መጠባቂያ ሞዴስ እርዳታ ማድረግ:: ይህ ፕሮጀክት በአለፈው አመት በተናጠል የሰራነው ነው:: ገንዘቡም የተገኘው ከበጎ አሳቢ ወዳጆች እና አባሎቻችን ሲሆን: 1000 ዶላር ተሰብስቦ ለ100 ሴት ተማሪዎች ማድረስ ተችሏል፡፡ በተጨማሪም ለአስቸኳይ ጊዜ የሚሆን ማንኛውም ሴት ተማሪ: አስተማሪ እና የግቢው ሴት ሰራተኞች እንዲጠቀሙ በማሰብ በብትን ተቀምጦ ጥቅም ላይ ውሏል፡፡ ይህ ሴቶችን የመደገፈ አላማ በዚሁ አመት የሚቀጥል ሲሆን ከስኮላር ሽፑ መዋጮ ጋር በጋራ ለማድረግ ታስቧል:: ይህም ዘላቂነቱን የሚያረጋግጥና ለአስራር አመች ሆኖ አግኝተነዋል፡፡

3. የትምህርት ቤቱን መፃህፍት ቤት በመጽሀፍ ማገዝ:: በጣና ሃይቅ ትምህርት ቤት ትልቅ ቤተ መጽሀፍት ተሰርቷል፡፡ ነገር ግን በውስጡ በቂ መጽሃፍት የሉትም:: ይህ ህብረት በጥቂቱም ቢሆን መጽሀፍት ቤቱን ከ2012 ጀምሮ ሲደግፍ ቆይቷል፡፡ በዚህ አመት ደግሞ በተጠናከረ ሁኔታ መጽሀፍትን ለመሰብሰብ አስበናል ወደፊት የሚኖረንን ዝርዝር ሃሳብ በማህበራዊ ገፃችብ በቅርብ ቀናት እናሳውቃለን፡፡

የዚህ የቀድሞ የጣና ሃይቅ ተማሪዎች ህብረት አስተባባሪዎች ኗሪነታቸው በኢትዮጵያ፣በአሜሪካ እንዲሁም በአውሮፓ ሲሆኑ ስማቸው እንደሚከተለው ሰፍሯል፡፡
