Tana Haik administration staff had organized a get together party on 13th July, 2014. The main objective of the get together was to discuss on the 50th anniversary celebration of Tana Haik school. Retired teachers, few alumni members, and current teaching staffs were among the participants. Drinks were sponsored by Dashen Beer.
Looking around the school compound, alumni participants have noticed impressive strides in the general well being of Tana Haik. We share the following notes as remarks:
- New buildings have been constructed, andseem to be ready for use.
- The old G+1 building is falling apart; and it might not be used for the next few semesters .The director explained that it is on the list of renovation works.
- The old class rooms are really below the standard. The floors, seats, windows and doors are broken. It was a bit shocking.
- Dashen Beer has promised to buy a photo copy and fax machine; and also to support retired teachers.
- Abeselom made a speech on behalf of the alumni group. He did not promise anything as we did not discuss on what would be our share regarding the 50th anniversary. Dr. Abeselom also shared a story, how he was contacted by an American company which was to hire a Tana Haik graduate. This experience by itself tells the significance of Tana Haik’s official presence in the social media.
The administrators require our great involvement on the 50th anniversary celebration, especially in promoting it, reaching out Tana Haik graduates, and participating in literature
Tana Family Tea Party was held on 2nd of August in Munich (Germany) and in July in San Jose (USA)on the special occasion of the annual Ethiopian football tournament. But, there were only few attendants and we did not meet our expectations.
Our next skype meeting will be on September 20,2014 19:00 Central European Time or 3:00 Ethiopian local time-evening. Agendas are:
- ‘How’ and ‘what’ should we contribute for the 50th anniversary
- Proceeding on our next plans:
- Strengthening the alumni library by introducing new ICT infrastructure to enhance the trend of reading and using the library resources
- Giving continued support for students working to gain their own income
- Sponsoring (or Searching a sponsor for) annual Ethio-tour visit for outstanding students
- How to ship the computers donated by Yonatan which are still stranded in London. We will hear from Solomon Kibret if there is any progress from Ethiopian Airlines side based on his letter for shipping support.
- Prioritizing the plans
Please, come and join us. If you suggest change of the date, or have ideas to be included in the agenda, please let us know in advance.
Finally, we wish you a belated Happy New Year!
