We hope all our members had a great weekend .This is the report from our skype meeting on November 04, 2012. The attendees were from Ethiopia, Europe and USA. We had good number of atteendes this time-Thank you all for being there. We had also two former Tana Haik students directly from Ethiopia. Nasir Adem told us the good news that he is expecting a child in the next four months or so. All of us congratulated him. We also want him to keep up the good work he is doing right now for his former school.
The followings are summaries of what we discussed:
1. Revision of last meeting
2. We have so far four former students going to Ethiopia this Christmas (Abebe Getahun, Dawit Gezahegn, Yonatan Gosaye and Tenager Bekalu who is already there). Dawit Gezahegn has promised to donate books for Tana Haik, Bahir Dar University, Bahir Dar public library and his books will be mainly from areas like Mathematics, Statistics and Physics. Yonatan Gosaye has also promised to donate some text books and references. If any of our members want to send text books or any material which you think is appropriate for the school please contact Dawit Gezahegn at davogzeu@yahoo.com or Yonatan Gosaye at johnmela@hotmail.com. They will help you to reach them directly to the school on behalf of you.
The books and the materials can also be donated to Bahir dar Universitiy and Bahir dar public library. Please feel free to give what you have which you think are useful.
3. We have also planned to have workshop and exhibition around Ethiopian Christmas(agreed tentative date is January 5th). Our members in Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa will also discuss and decide the date. The four members who are traveling have agreed that the date can be any day between December 25-January 5. The workshop will be a small research about history of Tana Haik and its student enrollment The workshop will be organized by Dawit Gezahegn and Tenager Bekalu. We also discussed that the exhibition will have drama and music concert program hosted by the current Tana Haik students. The more detail of the exhibition will be posted later.
4. The other discussion was about media announcement We have agreed that the workshop and exhibition should be announced through media such as Amhara TV program, Bahir Dar FM, Sheger FM, Flyers etc… This will help us to reach more people.
The exhibition is one way of fund raising. All our plans are proposed to give little support for our previous school. Anyone interested can join and feed us valuable comments.
We have proposed to meet again after two weeks on skype. The next skype meeting will be Sunday (November 18) starting 3:00(evening Ethiopian local time) or 12:00PM central day light time. Hope to see you there.
If there is anyone going for vacation during the Christmas time, please let us know in advance. We will find you something to do at the exhibition.
